Cappadocia
Million of years ago,volcanoes in Cappadocia erupted repeatedly, shaping the lasndcape. The flood waters and strong winds fashioned a geological marvel. In a sende,these volcanoes became the architects of Cappadocia. The remerkable fairy chimneys were amazing component of this geological miracle.
Today, Cappadocia including also Nevsehir, has become a major center of attraction not only because of its resplendent natural formations but also its ruins. These ruins were created by multiple civilizations that had emerged from prehistory to the present. The obsidian and stone hunting tools foundat the plateau on the skirts of Avla Mount near Ürgüp and in the town of Suvermez in the vicinity of Derinkuyu date back 500.000 years. Hence, these are the oldest remains of morals of these different civilizations for hunderd of years.
Beginning in the 18th century, the remarkable environment of Cappadocia has attracted many Western travelers. When they arrived here, they found the cultural assets of Hattians, Hittites, Phrygians, Hellenists,Romans, Byzantines and Turks, including both Seljuks and Ottomans. They observed different ethnic communities merging together and excellent examples of mutual courtesy and tolerance. Westernes tried to solve this cultural puzzle by exploring one of the most interesting cultural riches of the region of Cappadocia. These were the underground settlements of different sizes. Each of these hollowed areas contains a story and history as well.

The underground settlements, one of the most interesting cultural features of the Capppadocia region, were mainly constructed as temporary shelters,by digging vertically into the soft tuff in valleys and plateau slopes. In 1985, Cappadocia became the 357th site to be included on the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage list. Known as the Göreme NAtural and Historical Park, Cappadocia thus received the recognition it deserves due to its extraordinary natural formations as well as the diverse human cultures it has hosted over time.
